Director of Student Support and Success at Sacred Heart University School of Social Work
Elizabeth Johnson-Tyson, MSW, LMSW, is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Student Support and Success at the Sacred Heart University, School of Social Work. In response to the unique needs of social work students in general, and BIPOC and first-generation students specifically, she developed the Student Support and Success Program. She teaches courses in the undergraduate (BSW) and MSW programs with great interest in the anti-racism course and the children and families’ course.
She also serves as a member of the University President’s Advisory Council and has contributed substantially to the University’s efforts to address issues that impact its’ students. Prior to working at Sacred Heart University, she taught in the BSW program at another university. Professor Johnson-Tyson has spent the majority of her career as an educator and in child protection, beginning as a social work trainee and progressing to the position of State Director of Foster and Adoption Services. She has since worked as a trainer and consultant.
