Kurtis W. Young, MSSW, LCSW, originally from Nebraska, completed his Bachelors in Social Work at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. During his time at Creighton, Young was named Social Work Student of the Year. He started his career working with homeless and near-homeless individuals in Council Bluffs, Iowa with the non-profit organization Family Housing Advisory Services. While in this role, Kurtis served as President of the Pottawattamie County Behavioral Health Leadership Team.
After moving to Dallas, Texas in 2005, Young obtained his Masters of Science in Social Work degree in 2008 while working for Lutheran Social Services of the South in their foster care and adoption program. Since 2009, Young has worked for Parkland Health & Hospital System first as a social worker in the Psych ER and Consult Liaison services. In 2016 he moved into a leadership role and now serves as Director of Social Work for Behavioral Health Services at Parkland. His team at Parkland partnered with the City of Dallas and Meadows Mental Health & Policy Institute to launch the pilot program of the RIGHT Care Team in Dallas – providing a healthcare response to the mental health crisis. This team was awarded Parkland’s Patient Safety Champion – Innovative Team Award in 2019 for their innovative partnership.
